I've never used KDE (only GNOME briefly and xfce currently), so I
won't be able to help you on that route. However, there are other
ways to get the ThinkVantage key to work. Try this link:

It actually takes you through the steps of mapping a keysym to the
Thinkpad key so you can actually use it to do stuff.
