Check your BIOS settings; on many ThinkPads the BIOS by default is to
work in =E2=80=98normal=E2=80=99 (as opposed to =E2=80=98high=E2=80=99) bri=
ghtness; maybe if it=E2=80=99s set
to normal, the system sees 12 as the maximum brightness value.
