[ltp] T42 radeon 7500 crashing - vesa driver better but wont power off

To sum up. The past few days X has been crashing a lot. I can fix that by
using the vesa driver but for some reason power management of the display
will not work - not even 'xset dpms force off' will work.
So two problems. First I can't find anything helpful with the Xorg log - at
least googling hasn't found anything specific. I haven't made any updates
to the system except security fixes and nothing connected with X. Slackware
12.0 by the way.
I can't find any info on why vesa won't power off the screen. I dont
*really* need to use radeon - vesa would be fine - but I need find out what
is wrong with power management if I'm going to use it permanently.
Hope someone here has some ideas where to look and what to look for.
