Thanks for your thoughts. I think I have to spend more time on that 
topic in general. I take open source software for granted and so I'm now 
somewhat puzzled why this proprietary hardware dilemma didn't come 
earlier into my mind. But thanks to the list - better late then never. 
Actually I doubt that I find something out, that by now, wouldn't have 
been already posted to the list.
