File bugs, please. This means something is screwed up either in the kernel
or in wpa-supplicant (or worse, in the kernel<->userspace interface. argh!).

Just force the proper arch triplet through a site-local configure profile.
Refer to the autoconf/automake manual on how to do it (I don't know how from
the top of my head, but I know it exists).
