Hi All,
My first post here. Apologies if this has already been covered.
After years of Cygwin "not-quite-being-what-i-want" and general, niggling
unhappiness with my Windows installation I've gone Ubuntu.
I hit the usual suspend/resume problem with Gutsy and the temporary
workaround has been to install the Feisty kernel.
3d + compiz fusion + gutsy + fglrx working on my T43 with ATI Mobility using
the following steps:
1) get 2.6.20-16-generic linux-image and linux-headers from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux-source-2.6.20/
2) dpkg -i install them, you will also need linux-headers-2.6.20-16 to
satisfy dependencies
3) update-grub as root to get 2.6.20-16-generic to the boot menu
reboot to 2.6.20-16-generic
4) apt-get source linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-generic
5) cd linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-2.6.22.4/
6) sudo sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.37.6-x86.x86_64.run
and install the fglrx version by pressing enter and following the
instructions onscreen
reboot again and you should have 3d + compiz ready
of course don't forget to apt-get install xserver-xgl
I got the above from the launchpad bug report on this issue. Thanks to the
original poster.
Now my only outstanding things are to get Calendaring working with my work
Exchange server and dual-head from my docking station.... Wish me luck!
Cheers
SM
