Actually, it should be possible to buy a new southbridge from an IC
supplier, and get a *good* shop to exchange it with the broken one...

Might not make much sense as far as $$$ goes, though.  And finding an IC
supplier that will sell you *one* unit of a southbridge might not be very
easy either.
