Ahh ok... this was not obvious..
This is what I did in the end:

I started from the tuxonice repo which is up to date to the linus tree:

git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/nigelc/tuxonice-head.git my26

cd my26/
# the next line just adds an alias name
git remote add thinkpad-acpi git://repo.or.cz/linux-2.6/linux-acpi-2.6/ibm-acpi-2.6.git         
git fetch thinkpad-acpi
# merge the thinkpad-acpi/release/2.6.24 branch 
git-merge thinkpad-acpi/release/2.6.24
