This place http://www.arndtcomputer.com/ will replace your laptop
backlight for $150, including shipping both ways. Quite a few people on
forum.thinkpads.com have used the service and think it worthwhile. The
work is warranted for one year, and is transferable.
You could also do it yourself with a cheap CCFL tube and hours of delicate
work.
