Yeah! that's what I thought. I bought the Thinkpad because of its
reputation as being very good with Linux.

gnome-alsamixer wasn't installed. Installed and ran it and found all volume
controls (other than Mic) were at maximum.
Am trying to play audio CDs and various video files etc on youtube.com.
