[ltp] Temperature on the X60

Howdy everyone,

my spouse has an X60:

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5600  @ 1.83GHz with 1 GB of RAM.

Usually at home it sits in the docking station and is used for internet=20
browsing (Uhm, OK, excessive usage of Firefox on graphically intensive page=
=20
that distribute about 50 percent load on both cores).

X60

Every 2.0s: cat /proc/acpi/ibm/thermal                                     =
                        =20
Tue Mar 11 23:28:53 2008

temperatures:   90 54 -128 81 48 -128 43 -128 51=20
61 -128 -128 -128 -128 -128 -128

I have a T60 with exactly the same CPU and 2 GB of RAM:

Every 2.0s: cat /proc/acpi/ibm/thermal                                     =
                        =20
Tue Mar 11 23:29:59 2008

temperatures:   64 43 44 -128 38 -128 35 -128 51 51=20
56 -128 -128 -128 -128 -128

Both outputs have been reproduced with identical programmes started and the=
=20
same websites loaded.

The X60 is running about 25=B0C hotter that my T60, which of course results=
 in=20
the fan being constantly running at high speed and driving me nuts. There i=
s=20
no difference in temperature between the X60 being in the docking station o=
r=20
not.

What is your experience with the X60 in terms of temperature? Is there any=
=20
remedy or is it "Deal with it" time? I find 90=B0C frighteningly high.

Both systems run Ubuntu with a 2.6.22 kernel; playing around with different=
=20
kernels and distributions on my T60 yielded no differenc in temperature, so=
 I=20
assume it wouldn't make any difference on the X60 either.

Thanks for some input on this matter.
