[ltp] continuing problems with CF cards in a PCMCIA adapter

Hi:

There have been quite a few reports (inclding from me) that CF cards in
a PCMCIA adapter don't work. 

Does anyone have a fix for this problem?

There have been musings (on LKML) that the problem is related to some
underlying BIOS problem on (some) Thinkpads?  Has anyone experienced the
problem on something besides a Thinkpad (or something besides a Thinkpad
T60 or T60p)?

The behaviour that I get is that the card is not recognized when it is
inserted when the machine is running.  Here are the /var/log/messages
after inserting the card and adapter:
