Interesting. If this is something that plugs into the PCMCIA slot in a
T60, it would probably be useful to see what the /var/log/messages or
dmesg output is when it is plugged in, to see why it is different from
my experience.
This is what I see when I push my PCMCIA adapter and CF card into the
slot on the side of my T60p:
