I've found a parameter to the video module, which is
brightness_switch_enabled on vanilla kernel (and automatic_change on
ubuntu kernels).
If I set it to =E2=80=9Cno=E2=80=9D (echo N
> /sys/modules/video/parameters/brightness_switch_enabled),
gnome-power-manager is able to use brightness keys.
Could you tell me what you have
in /sys/modules/video/parameters/automatic_change?
