I would try the following:
Try booting a Ubuntu hardy live CD - test the 32 bit one, test the 64 bit
one. I use the 32 bit version without any real problems together with the
same wireless card.
If both work fine, you have got a software problem (upgrade problem).
If only 32 bit works fine - you could got with 32 bit (PAE extension, if
your mem >= 4 GB).
Wireless LED though will not work with the live CD - no backport modules
installed, but it is worth a try.
