I'd suspect your login shell, and .profile or shell specific .rc files.
Since it is at wake up, ssh key chain will be my prime suspect, or if you
have any vpn scripts. Hope you locate the trouble soon
thanks

no, definitely not. But I've discovered the system is not hung, it's just my login. I can log in as another user, and everything is working fine, but when I try and login as me, even using su, it hangs before the password prompt comes up. Trying to dig some more, I've added a user that can sudo so I can start doing some digging.

I'm getting an unusual hang after waking up from suspend. The screen is locked, but the password dialogue doesn't come up. Mouse pointer is still
The password dialogue doesn't come up but did you try to insert you
password even so? It happens to me sometimes and is just that, "the
password dialogue doesn't come up" but it's there.
moving. I can kill the X server, it restarts and I then get the login screen. I can type my name, but it doesn't get as far as password entry. If I go to a vt I get the same thing. Login prompt accepts user name and then hangs before prompting for password. Eventually everything locks solid, and the way out is a reboot.
