Lucky you, Ubuntu sometimes really manages to be the distro for lazy
people, they just don't realise that ;-).

# sudo aptitude install linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-21-generic
# modprobe tp-smapi

Rather strangely, there are no reverse-depends on that package even
though they explicitly advise you not to install that package directly
but to rely on the package system.
