I think the main issue is that the Linux kernel does not put unused PCI
chips in D3. Using some quick setpci hacks, I could save approximately
that amount on my non-IBM laptop (Fujitsu-Siemen S7110, but that doesn't
matter) when putting the PATA chip for the CD drive, the wlan chip
(Atheros), the network chip (Marvell) and the Firewire controller (O2
Micro) to sleep. I don't remember whether I also put the CardBus
controller into D3.
