I had Fedora 10 up and running within an hour after it
first became online.
Mine does almost the same thing but if I tap Fn a second time
it restores perfectly, at least 90% of the time.
This is such a great improvement over previous versions that
I'm happy with it.
I hope that they don't kill it on future upgrades.
I do notice that on the one TP that I have that have that has a 
pcmcia (ar5212) network card the card stays active while in suspend.
Again, this is not a problem for me since the LT is on AC 98%  of the time.
About one time in ten or more the LT is just totally gone upon restore
to the point where only a forced power off shutdown will bring it back.
All three of the last Ubuntu versions have had the same problem.
And wonder of wonders, the 10 with the rt kernel will even suspend.
This !!! is !!! a first, at least for me.
Now if I could just figure out how to make it do a software synth, ( play back
midi files) I would have a completely full Christmas stocking.
