Just try to eliminate the usual suspects:

- disable USB (unload ehci_hcd and uhci_hcd)

- disable wireless LAN

- disable bluetooth

- dim the display

- stop sucking applications like firefox

As you already used powertop, I guess that you already use the ondemand
governor for CPU frequency scaling etc.

What power usage is reported in powertop? And what usage of the C
states in the above left part of the powertop output?
