[ltp] Kernel 2.6.26 and display brightness

I just got around to updating my X60 to kernel 2.6.26 from 2.6.24
(stock Debian kernels in both cases), and I've run into problems with
display brightness on boot. With the old kernel, it would boot with
full brightness if on AC, and slightly dimmed when on battery, but now
it always boots with a very dimmed setting, and I have to turn up the
brightness myself.

Any web searches on 2.6.26 and brightness only brings up problems with
getting the Fn+(Home,End) keys working, but they work just fine for
me without out of the box, so I guess I must have some other problem.

Here's what syslog has to on the subject:
thinkpad_acpi: This ThinkPad has standard ACPI backlight brightness control, supported by the ACPI video driver
thinkpad_acpi: Disabling thinkpad-acpi brightness events by default...
thinkpad_acpi: Lenovo BIOS switched to ACPI backlight control mode
thinkpad_acpi: standard ACPI backlight interface available, not loading native one...

Any ideas?
