If your machine is using an Intel graphics chip, it could be related to
changes in the new driver version:
According to c't (a German computer magazine) issue 13/2009 (June 6),
some changes in the Intel driver broke suspend to either disk or RAM.

I have not followed the news whether there are any solutions.
