I guess that depends on the distribution. AFAIK hibernate data is written to a 
swap partition usually. When I tried tuxonice the last time it had the ability 
to write to standard files, but one could configure the location of that file.

I don't use hibernate (nvidia card) currently , so I may be wrong.
