I got intrested in SL500 as it's currently on sale, most likely because it ships with VHB that is not eligible for free upgrade to Windows 7. Not that I care.

It's a reasonably new thing, especially by Lenovo, and I haven't got a single experiences with such screens. I read the backlight may age unevenly. Should I worry, or is this just the way things go? Does this affect battery life in a major way?

Hi, I bought an SL500 (the fully Intel based model) in September and I
am very happy with it.
It works perfectly for now despite being dropped twice from about
40-50cm and once I spit half bottle of water over its keyboard, but the
drainage saved me.
The screen is very good in my opinion and I am able to get about
2:45h-3:15min on battery power using the standard battery.
Thanks to Alexandre Rostotsev there are drivers for everything but the
hdaps. I haven't tried the fingerprint reader yet, but found out that
there is a solution for it.
In my opinion it is a very good low-cost model and as for now it is
worth its price.
