Have you tried dual monitors?

I could not get 11.2/64 bit working with dual monitors on a T400
(discrete graphics) without really poor graphics performance (windows
jumping when you moved them, etc).  The stock config would not even
see the external monitor.  The latest ATI driver saw the external
monitor, but with really bad performance.

Works out of the box on Fedora 12.
