[ltp] How to tame the touchpad on R40??

I've just replaced my A20m (which doesn't have a touchpad) with a R40 which 
does have a touchpad, and the darn thing's got a mind of its own.   Trouble 
is, a tap on the pad is equivalent to a left mouseclick, and I can't avoid my 
thumb brushing across it when operating the trackpoint/mouse buttons, 
resulting in 'undefined behaviour'.   

Is there any way to disable the 'mouseclick' function of the pad, or else (if 
I have to) disable the pad altogether?   (Before I get so frustrated I go 
back to my A20?)
