I don=E2=80=99t do anything graphics-intensive either =E2=80=93 but I was a=
ble to see
(and, more importantly, feel) the degradation even in Compiz=E2=80=99s basic
effects.

If you could simply boot into Ubuntu 10.04, install the mesa-utils
package if you don=E2=80=99t have it, open the terminal, run glxgears for a=
bout
half a minute and then send me the terminal output that would be great.
(I get ~5000 frames in five seconds (~1000 FPS) in Ubuntu 9.04
and ~2500 frames in five seconds (~500 FPS) in 9.10 and 10.04.)
On a related note: did you try using your X301 with an external
display connected to the DisplayPort (as opposed to the VGA output)?
I first had a lot of problems with a DisplayPort-DVI connector, finally
got the right(-number-of-pins) one, only to be able to use it for half
an hour and then it stopped working again; I=E2=80=99m not sure whether my
hardware broke or is it some software problem. (I can=E2=80=99t see the boot
screens on DisplayPort anymore, so I=E2=80=99m thinking it=E2=80=99s a hard=
ware issue.)
