You're right, that's precisely what I've been wondering. I did add a
request to RPM Fusion, a third-party repository that carries software
that mainline Fedora will not (Link: http://rpmfusion.org/Wishlist).

If RPM Fusion will carry the binary only Nvidia and ATI 3D drivers then
I don't see legally or ethically why they couldn't carry tp_smapi --
perhaps it's just lack of contributors efforts?

As I said, when the akmod was working it was great, never had to think.
It installed like an rpm and then always kept the kmod in sync with my
current kernel, automatically building a new version when necessary. If
I get time i will look at how to write one because battery charging
levels are important for me, access to them was important in my
migration away from Windows.
