X-debbugs-Cc: ibm-acpi-devel@lists.sourceforge.net, linux-thinkpad@linux-thinkpad.org
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.32-5
File: /lib/modules/2.6.32-trunk-686/kernel/drivers/platform/x86/thinkpad_acpi.ko

(Don't) try this simple test:
In an xdm (or some other window manager perhaps) window, do
$ cat /proc/acpi/ibm/video

Voila. The screen goes black, the keyboard becomes useless, and even the
# (sleep 44; reboot)
job you had running on tty1 never completes. I.e., the system is
rendered inoperable. The only thing you can do at this point is hold
down the power button until vrrrr... it powers down. Then power back up
and let it recover its ext3 journals etc.

Notes: you have to run this experiment in xwindows. Doing it on tty1
just prints a few lines of text.
