Hmmm, according to ThinkWiki [1] the Western Digital WD1600BEKT-00F3T0 
with firmware 11.1A11 has parked (and hdparm reports UNLOAD capability) . 
So there is a chance that those new drives have this capability too.

I might just buy one. 160 GB additional capacity is plenty and I can put 
the 160 GB into my older ThinkPad T23. I do not know whether it has LBA 
48, but Linux should be able to access the 160 GB just well, shouldn't it?
