Well, I did. And it does IDLE IMMEDIATE with UNLOAD:
shambhala:~> hdparm -I /dev/sda | grep IDLE
* IDLE_IMMEDIATE with UNLOAD
shambhala:~> smartctl -a /dev/sda | grep Load_Cycle
193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always =
=20
=2D 73
shambhala:~> smartctl -a /dev/sda | grep Load_Cycle
193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always =
=20
=2D 73
shambhala:~> hdparm --idle-unload /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
issuing idle_immediate_unload command
shambhala:~> smartctl -a /dev/sda | grep Load_Cycle
193 Load_Cycle_Count 0x0032 200 200 000 Old_age Always =
=20
=2D 74
;)
I wasn't sure at first, cause I do not hear *any* head movements of the=20
drive. It appears to be quite fast as well.
=46irst I thought the drive is quite noisy, but I compared with my Hitachi=
=20
160 GB and it made the same noise. Thats just the 5400 rpm sound I guess=20
and I do not hear it when the ThinkPad fan is on. But no sound of head=20
movements whatsoever.
Thats the drive:
shambhala:~> hdparm -I /dev/sda | head -11
/dev/sda:
ATA device, with non-removable media
Model Number: WDC WD3200BEVE-00A0HT0 =20
Serial Number: WD-WX80EC9SW890
Firmware Revision: 11.01A11
Transport: Serial, SATA 1.0a, SATA II Extensions, SATA=20
Rev 2.5
Standards:
Supported: 8 7 6 5=20
Likely used: 8
AFAIR it has the same firmware revision than the one mentioned in the Wiki.
Before:
shambhala:~/alt-neu-platte> egrep "(home$|/$)" df-hT-alt.txt
/dev/sda1 ext4 14G 13G 724M 95% /
/dev/sda5 ext4 131G 129G 1,8G 99% /home
After:
shambhala:~> df -hT / /home
Dateisystem Typ Size Used Avail Use% Eingeh=E4ngt auf
/dev/dm-0 ext4 20G 13G 6,7G 65% /
/dev/dm-1 ext4 197G 127G 69G 65% /home
And about 78 GB left in the volume group.
So me is happy now ;-).
If I remember I will enter the drive to the wiki tomorrow.
Ciao,
