Update:

I've got bluetooth working on my Thinkpad Edge 15 now.

There was absolutely no trace of bluetooth in linux or in the BIOS.

I installed Windows 7 from the recovery partition, pressed Fn+F9, enabled
bluetooth in the popup, booted back in linux, and now I have bluetooth.

$ lsmod | grep blue
bluetooth 58685 7 rfcomm,sco,bnep,l2cap,btusb

Yes this is completely crazy. But I'm happy. I thought I'd mention it in
case anyone encounters similar problems.
