[ltp] Upgrading from IBM to Lenovo?

Hey folks,

     What do people think of the lenovo quality?

     I'm using an IBM t43p to type this... last of the original IBM
thinkpads (bought it when it was bleeding edge, right before the
sale).  It still works great, and I'm not about to throw it away :-),
but after six years I've finally decided it's time for an upgrade.

     I'm running ubuntu and I'm a software developer, mostly java.
The majority of my use is coding and surfing (and occasionally
watching videos).  Durability and portability are probably my highest
priorities.

     Last month I got to briefly handle a recently purchased lenovo.
It felt a lot lighter, which isn't entirely a bad thing, but it makes
me wonder if it's lost some durability.  I noted that the pronounced
screen frame that protects against wracking force was missing.
