As I understand it, a LiPo battery that is not abused(*) is good for 
about 500 cycles, or 2 years, whichever comes first. So keeping the 
battery unused won't really help much with its lifespan.

(*)As a pilot of a model (electric-powered) aircraft, we usually flatten 
batteries at c/30 at peak - this tends to kill them relatively fast, and 
we regard them as a consumable, rather like fuel.
