Uh?  All POTS lines are analog, although the phone exchange side most
certainly won't be in any reasonably modern part of the world.

IME, you can find a POTS FXS port just about everywhere.  It is a damn
useful fallback when travelling around.

That would be the way forward, yes.  Same for RS232 ports.  Just make triple
sure it is cdc-acm, and NOT a USB-audio device (USB-attached winmodems! THE
HORROR!).
