It probably depends on the exact specs.
I've a T61 with Intel everything (graphics, wifi). The screen is only
1280x800, which might me a downside if you like larger screens.
I've had it for slightly over four years now, and it has worked
flawlessly under various versions of Ubuntu (7.10 through 11.10), with
only minor hiccoughs.
I had to replace the fan (started whirring loudly, couldn't stand the
noise) and the AC adapter (too much flexing is not good for the cable
end, although a coworker who knows how to use a soldiering iron fixed it
for me, so now I have two).
I also got an (expensive) Intel SSD, which was the best upgrade ever, in
terms of making the computer feel fast.
