Thanks for your advice.
It triggered me to find out that the group of four, separate, unconnected pins are in fact the "jumper-pins" (my name)
I also found the following information with regard to the pins (http://www.av8n.com/computer/htm/disk-pinout.htm ):
===quote===
For laptops (44 pin connector) the master/slave jumper scheme given below seems
to be pretty common, although I wouldn’t be surprised to find others. Looking
at the pins, we have (v = pin 1):
v
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . device 0
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . i.e. master
v
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . | device 1
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . | i.e. slave
v
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . cable select
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . _ _
===end quote===
So, as I understand it, I should leave the disk already in the laptop as is - no jumpers = (disk 0 / master)
the disk in the new caddy should have the jumper vertically on the outermost pins = (disk 1/slave).
Is this the same as what you are saying?
Will anything be broken if I get it wrong or will it just not work?

Dick.
