I just retired my R61 not because it wasn't working well but because of the weight. I needed a more mobile solution. If you invest in an ssd, 4GB pf ram and apply a patched BIOS, to enable full SATA compatibility, it will fly.

Have a look at thinkwiki.org.
>From my memory: r61 should have a slightly newer chipset and gpu and come with a 64bit cpu (core2duo instead of core duo).
I would get the newer one :)
