A good rule of thumb for those people interested in doing Linux kernel
development work (or who think they might be interested, including
just wanting to build their own custom kernel configuration) is to
never buy a laptop with any kind of Nvidia graphics technology.
I do agree that the Optimus is particularly bad in this respect.
