The GPU in question in this thread is Intel's HD3000 on the x220.

Ivy Bridge's HD4000 supports 3 displays (confirmed with a mini-itx board 
in the office).

So assuming Lenovo wired it all up the same way, the GPU on the *X230* 
should support 3 displays simultaneously, but the *X220* only 2.
