I can't really answer this part of your question because I've gotten
rid of all my VGA monitors.
A couple of cautions --- make sure you turn off UEFI boot *all* the
way. It's not enough to just leave it in dual legacy/UEFI boot; I
bricked three system boards before figuring this out the hard way.

There is currently a kernel bug supporting the video output of all of
the new Lenovo docks. I'm sure it will eventually be solved, and
there are some hacky workaround kernel patches that seem to work for
some people:

Also, audio out is not currently working with the dock. Again, it's
probably a driver issue that will eventually get fixed:
