When you run xrandr, do you see anything about HDMI1/DP1?

Another thing: when I plug in an external monitor to my X220 (integrated
Intel video) using a DisplayPort -> DVI cable, it's usually not
autodetected (in like 95%) because of I-don't-know-what, the hotplug
interrupt happens before the monitor is ready to talk EDID over DDC or
something.  I have to manually trigger an xrandr query to get the
external monitor to be autodetected.

That might only apply to Optimus models.

It wouldn't make any sense to include a DP connector in a laptop that
cannot ever be used.
