[ltp] After ALSA setup, bot freezed Finding Module Dependencies

I recently set up my IBM TP600 for ALSA sound, edited the conf.modules file to
appear as stated at  www.levien.com/tp600.html  and now the kernel freezes
during boot at    Finding Module Dependencies...    I can hit a CTRL-X  which
will stop that command and move on, but sound does not work.

Any ideas?
