Well, my problem is this. RH7, TP A20p. I plug an external monitor into
my laptop, leave the lid down, text mode works, X does not work.

I figured I would need a different XF86Config-4 file. But before I go off
reading man pages and documentation on the file format, I thought I'd ask
if this is the right path to follow. Or even if the A20p could do this
under XFree 4.01 with the native driver. What I suspect is that because
the video card in the A20p can run two displays at once, it is screwing up
the driver that ships with XFree 4.01 and RH7.

The subject of the commercial driver came up, and I'm going to go off and
pursue that as well.

I'm learning far more about X than I had intended to, but what the heck,
it is fun. And along the way, I got my Netscape fonts fixed as well.

Jeff,

I'm not sure exactly what your question is. Do you just want to use an
external monitor instead of the laptop LCD? That's not a problem. I do it
in Winblows and RH 6.2 without having to do anything special. I see
1280x1024 on both the LCD and external 21" monitor. So that must not be
your question.

Perhaps you're asking the same thing that I was asking earlier. Is there a
way to have an extended desktop using both the external monitor and the
LCD. If this is your question, please keep me posted on an answer if you
hear of one.

Winblows spoiled me. I like having my email client and Netscape on one
monitor while doing real work on the other monitor.
