            Dave,

    I had the same pb you have. I was using "sndconfig" without options...

Then I tried "sndconfig --noprobe"
ans I was able to specify :
card type : Crystal CS423x sound chip
I/O port : 0x530
IRQ : 5
DMA : 1
DMA2 : 0
MPU I/O : 330
MPU IRQ : 9
