Already tried that. Did wonder about the CMOS battery but haven't invesigated 
where it is.

Not checked that, didn't want to attack it with a screwdriver in case it has

Am I going to void my warranty? I'm happy to pull desktops and servers apart 
all day long but laptops aren't designed to have users upgrade parts or 
tinker. The machine is only 11 months old so if all else fails it'll have to 
go back and I don't want IBM to find an excuse to bill me for it's failure.

I wish I could, at least it would have passed the POST and I'd know that the 
problem was more likely peripheral, it's starting to sound more like a 
motherboard problem all the time.
