Would be nice, wouldn't it. I must admit to not even bothering to try to
get a new one free for mine. I've always had 2 batteries, keeping one which
I use about once every 3 to 4 months and the other which is always in the
machine, except unplugged these days when in the office, although that may
no longer be necessary.

OK, junk battery flattened and charged. It charged up to 100% as desired.
Presumably it will work the same way with a good battery. BTW my junk
battery still has about 10-15% life in it - goes from 90% to 8% instantly
during discharge.
