Hi, Jim-
I'm pretty sure that you will need to run Disk Manager, even if you try
to confine Windows to the first part of the disk. The reason is that
the partition table for the disk still must reflect the correct disk
geometry. You may be able to get away with it but I wouldn't think it
was a good idea. I think I tried it for a bit but found funny things
were happening. It has been awhile so I can't remember for sure.
However, it is certain that disk formatting and partitioning programs
won't work without Disk Manager. You might be able to do all that under
Linux and keep the windows partitions below 8.4GB and be OK but I
wouldn't do it with any data I care about. Disk Manager works fine,
Linux knows what to do with the Disk Manager data at the start of the
disk and, so far, everything works fine so I'm happy with that setup.
There are a few minor restrictions when you use Disk Manager (like you
can't boot from another hard disk without some Disk Manager installed on
it) but they haven't bothered me at all.
