[ltp] Dual Boot Linux/Win2k on an A21p ?

If you don't want to use Windows Disk Manager or fdisk and "recover"
Windows,
you can use PartitionMagic 6.0 to shrink your Win2K NTFS partition and
define
partitions you want to use for Linux. It's a good idea to backup
everything
before trying this, or (if you're willing to live dangerously) at least
write
your partition table to a floppy disk using a Linux disk utility (I've
used
Mandrake DiskDruid for this) _before_ changing any partition table
entries:
start the CD-install, select Expert Mode, backup the partition table,
exit;
then use PartitionMagic 6 to resize the Win2K disk, define Linux
partitions.

Unless you're willing to fdisk and recover your Win2K partition, don't
use a
Linux hard disk utility to create Linux partitions. Use PartitionMagic
to do
this. Also be _sure_ to define your Linux partitions is ascending
sequence,
as Windows chokes on non-sequential partitions. PartitionMagic6 can
recover
from many of these kinds of errors (delete bad partitions, etc.)...
usually.

Once you have Linux installed, you can copy a boot-floppy image to the
Win2K
C:\ root and add an entry for it to Win2K's boot.ini file. A Google
search
can find some very specific instructions.

Backup your own data, have your Win2K recovery CD handy, plus CDs or
backups
for all your other Win2K software. You _will_ risk losing your Win2K
system.

Hope that helps,
Robert Munro
