No, I abandoned the text console option as it crashed my X server each and
every time. So the answer I guess is "no, I havent experienced a hang as
such while using switching to the text console before suspending the
machine".

Yes, I am. Otheriwise the machine hangs in different situations.

Yes, I am running 4.1 using version 1.1.19 of the driver. There has been no
change between the different 4.x versions of X.
